Sambhal Violence: Police to Recover Rs 1 Crore from Rioters
In the wake of the recent violence in Sambhal, property worth over Rs 1 crore has been damaged. The police have announced that the miscreants responsible for the destruction will be held accountable for the losses. So far, 34 individuals have been arrested, and 400 have been identified through photographs.
The police have urged those involved in the violence to come forward voluntarily, as actions are being taken based on CCTV footage. During the unrest, cars were set ablaze, and transformers were damaged. The captured footage will be used to ensure that the perpetrators compensate for the damages.
Incident Overview
The violence erupted on November 24 during a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal. The clash resulted in four fatalities and injuries to around two dozen people, including police officers. Over two and a half thousand people have been booked in connection with the violence, many of whom remain unidentified. Notably, Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rehman Burke and Sohail Iqbal, son of MLA Iqbal Mahmood, are among those named in the case.
Government’s Stance
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the police and administration to take stringent action against those involved in the violence. He emphasized that the cost of repairing public property should be recovered from the miscreants. CM Yogi stated that no one would be allowed to spread anarchy, whether in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Sambhal, or any other district.
Measures to Control Violence
The Chief Minister has called for the identification and public display of posters of those who incite violence. He urged for public cooperation and an intensive search operation to ensure that not a single miscreant escapes accountability.
